My Aromatherapy Journey

I’ve been working towards my Aromatherapy Certification since 2020 and during the last five years many things have happened. I’ve passed my chemistry and anatomy exams and started working on case studies (I have to complete 25 of them). I have taken time off from my studies due to mental blocks and visits to therapy to help me keep moving forward.

I love learning about chemistry and how to work with essential oils properly. Plus the ability to create and find a blend that is spot on for a situation makes my heart so happy! So when I came to a mental block I got very angry for about a year and then realized for some reason it was linked to my mom and that I needed professional help to pull that trauma to the conscious mind.

Over 2024 that’s what I did. I’d go in once a month and did what is called A.R.T therapy. Each session we would meet the mind where it was at and things would come through that I had no idea about. Some because I was simply too young and some because it was so consumed with anger that my brain was just stuck and blocking it out.

None of it followed a logical path at all. There were moments in my life that happened that created the block that didn't make sense. In going through this I understand just how the mind and body and emotions play such a huge role with each other.

One of the moments was a memory that I've flashed to over the years, but I didn’t know it was linked to my block. My mom was into aromatherapy when I was about 8 years old, she used them on me and I LOVED it. What I didn’t know is how I naturally work with essential oils is the same way she did. It was a connection we shared. I had to process the grief first as that connection is now energetic as she’s no longer physically here.

Big moments to work through, which allowed me to get back to my studies this past year and get back to my case studies. To give a little insight on how a case study goes, I find a person to work with and create a confidential study or trial with them. I meet with the person to fill out an intake form and understand their situation and what they would like help with and how aromatherapy could play a role in their health. I have the person go through a blind essential oil sniff test (making sure not to use any essential oils they could be allergic to). We agree on an application which could be through a diffuser or topical oil. Then I create and check in weekly and keep them supplied until the goal is reached. If it’s not reached, we tweak and I create a new blend.

Back in December I submitted my 16th case study and I was approved and accepted. Each completed study is an exam all its own because I get questioned about it extensively or I get asked to fix any errors found. I have been given the grace to do each case study at my own pace which I am thankful for. The goal is to NOT GIVE UP!

So, if you have ever wondered why I've brought up aromatherapy common questions or topics. It’s because of my ongoing training and what comes to me during my studies!
