How to Diffuse Essential Oils

I’d love to answer the question, how do I diffuse essential oils?

There are a lot of different kinds on the market. I have two different diffusers that I use. I have a glass one and a plastic one. The glass one is in my room at the studio and the plastic one was one I got for my kids. Bottom line is they don’t need to be expensive to be good quality.

You might wonder how to care for the diffuser. First of all they do come with care instructions but the kind of water you use in it is up to you. You might hear that distilled is best because tap water could have things in it that could clog up the diffuser. So keep that in mind. It's wise to get a diffuser that has a time limit to it or will turn off once the water has been used up.

How many essential oil drops? The very short answer is less is more, one or 2 drops per essential oil you are deciding to use each time you have your diffuser running.

Fun fact: What does the word essential mean? It’s the essence of the plant, we learned a very long time ago that the essence helped the plant heal and we learned how to remove it for ourselves as we found it helped our bodies as well. The essence of the plant is a very high concentration of the plant's healing properties. Each plant has its own very unique abilities in how they help our bodies and that is why less is more. Some plants you only need 1 drop as it’s so powerful while others you can safely use 5 drops if the moment requires it. (that is rare but it does happen).

For example, I pulled out the plastic diffuser and filled it with water and added 1 drop of lavender and 2 drops of ravintsara. I set the timer for 3 hours. This blend aids in sleep and calming the whole nervous system and aiding in respiratory discomfort. My hubby had been having some hard nights due to work expectations. He also doesn’t care for things overpowering in a fragrance because the nervous system can get over-stimulated when the aroma is overpowering. Or if the essential oil you bought has added synthetics to the bottle (the aromatherapy industry isn’t regulated, so this can happen with different brands).

With this lavender and ravintsara blend we both had a peaceful night of sleep. I didn’t have any allergy issues and he felt better. Yes, allergies in the winter are a thing! A common one is a sensitivity to the mold in the snow so on warmer days when the snow melts my body responds to the mold held within. An aroma blend helps my body by supporting me while I sleep so my immune system can focus on fighting off the allergies. For me I know it worked because I didn’t wake up with dry eyes and I felt more rested.

After care for your diffuser? That may look like cleaning it after each use. I leave mine alone until I notice some build up happening. Again, your diffuser instructions may have guidelines you can follow, each are built a little differently.

Lavender is an oil that gets abused a lot in the industry. Keep in mind not all will smell the same. It depends on where it grows and how it was cared for. The goal of this oil is to truly relax your whole system provided you enjoy the aroma, because if you don’t like it, it won’t have the true effect on your body.

Ravintsara is a less common oil that is great for supporting the lungs and is safer than using eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is very harsh on the lungs so I steer away from it and LOVE Ravintsara as it is very powerful and safe.

I picked this blend because it energetically supported the emotional stress and physical needs of the situation. My goal is to be as effective as possible.
