What is Cupping Therapy

I introduced cupping therapy into my practice a few years ago after completing proper certified training but I've been doing it on myself and my family for years. I was taught by traditional acupuncturists to work with them safely since laws and regulations vary between states. Within my practice I use silicone and glass cups. The cups create suction, allowing the muscles to find a deep relief and restoring balance to the tight tissues.

The suction of the cups help pull blood to the area. The occasional coloration of your skin in the cup tells me how tight the tissues and muscles are in that area of the body. The coloration can sometimes fade quickly or last for a few days. They look like bruises or really large octopus tentacle spots ha! But they are harmless.

Cups can give relief to your lymphatic system, fascia, areas of trauma (sports or repetitive activities). Think of it like this: by lifting the skin there is “space” between the skin layers and muscles underneath the area for blood to flow to and from.

They are an amazing tool and one I am grateful to have to offer. Let me know if you’d like to give them a try at your next session.
