Consistency is Key
Fitness and health have always been a part of my life in one way or another, but as my body aged, I reached a point where I needed a whole new approach.
I was starting to notice slight abdominal pains, but I didn’t understand it. I ended up seeing a kinesiologist as my doctor didn’t know what to tell me. The kinesiologist figured out what was going on. I hadn’t heard of it before but it made so much sense and just felt right. I actually got excited because I knew that there was a solution and I knew a personal trainer that was currently going through very specific training to learn how to help her clients correct this exact issue.
I found an amazing person to help me and I think very highly of her.
The timing was perfect. I was ready to trust her to help guide me and she was excited to use her new skills. I’ve been working with her for about 1.5 yrs now and it hasn’t been easy at all. There have been hard days, weeks, and even months. My goal was to learn my body because I never knew what it was really meant to look and feel like. I didn’t care about the scale, I only cared about the inches and seeing my body move closer to strength. I learned to love and understand my shape and regained my strength in my muscles.
I love to rock climb and go bouldering so much! Unfortunately with my hyperflexibility and with how much my muscles got pulled apart during my first pregnancy, those activities couldn’t happen anymore. So that became a goal as well, and this past spring I gave it a go. I did one climb and walked the mat and that wore me out. (the mat is very thick and meant to absorb your fall) I kept at it! Allowing setbacks to happen allowed my body to rest when it was needed, but I kept at it.
It all paid off! At the end of this summer we went bouldering again and I climbed 5 routes and walked the mat with ease, got sweaty, got in some cardio and had so much fun. It gave me motivation to keep to my routine and plan our next trip to the bouldering project.
My first thought, as I sat on the mat, was to tell my trainer THANK YOU! Yeah I did the work but so did she. Having a support system of friends and family makes such a difference. When you surround yourself with the support you need, you can move mountains.
The different color routes show different levels of difficulty. I only do the yellow at the moment because it’s the easiest. Eventually I'll graduate to a more challenging climb.
Consistency is key in all areas of life, in all that you do for yourself and it’s okay if you have a hard day as long as you get back up and keep going. Show yourself grace and applaud yourself for your efforts!
