The story behind My massage oil. It’s available for purchase and called Nourishing Skin Oil.
I've had requests to sell the oil that I use during massage sessions.
I'm making it available to you now to purchase and am calling it Nourishing Skin Oil.
So, let’s get into that!
I’ve been selling my carrier oil blend but as I'm asked more it nudged me to officially offer it.
I have changed what I use during massages a bunch over the last 20+ years for a variety of reasons.
My current blend is a keeper! I personally love it and it seems others do as well.
Part of this carrier oil was made by myself when I started doing this about two years ago. I did this for a few reasons. To keep costs down and to expand shelf life which is important.
Many infused carrier oils have a base oil of olive oil which has a shelf life and not all olive carrier oils have the same quality.
I use Jojoba carrier oil and I love it because it doesn’t have a shelf life itself so it will extend the quality and life of the product that it’s blended into.
Why do I keep specifying the word “carrier”? Carrier oils help our skin absorb the essential oils in a product. Without it, your skin will repel the essential oils. You could also experience irritation from the essential oils because their strength would not be diluted with an oil to carry it further.
This year has had a theme in my world of “Less is More”. And when working with plants, it's even more true. But unfortunately many of us are not educated appropriately and all plant products are getting over harvested and over used to support demand. This is part of why the cost goes up.
This got me thinking, I’ve got all my training, I can make my own trauma carrier oil! So I did.
I decided to make my own infused Trauma carrier oil even though it is a long process. I enjoy it though and have noticed a deeper connection and respectful relationship with the plants and earth through this process.
I ordered the three flowers that make up my “Trauma oil” and I took four half-gallon mason jars and filled them with the mixture of flowers. The flowers I included are:
Arnica
St. Johns Wort
Calendula
I then poured Jojoba oil over them untill it filled the jar. I then sealed it and let it do its thing. You can let it sit for 4 months or up to one year. The longer it sits in a cool spot and the plants infuse into the Jojoba oil, the stronger the product and more effective it is at achieving its goal.
I currently have two gallons infusing in my house!
Once I feel the mixture is done infusing, it’s time to separate the flower mixture from the oil. I’ve used fabric mesh, but too much of the flower particles would sneak through. I ended up getting a milk bag with much finer holes to only allow the oil through and not the flowers.
I hand squeeze it and then I let it drip the remaining oil into a bowl I use to collect the oil. This process takes a few days since I'm relying on gravity.
I then use a funnel to pour the now infused Trauma carrier oil into small jars that I store until it’s needed.
That’s one part of the massage oil blend that I use.
For massage oil I blend these three carrier oils:
My Trauma carrier oil
Hemp seed oil
Morninga carrier oil
Hemp seed oil is an amazing oil! As far as chemistry goes it’s the closest to our own skin oil. Meaning the skin will recognize it and absorb it with ease. It also aids in pain relief.
Morninga carrier oil is fabulous as it allows the pores of your skin to soften and open up, helping your skin breathe.
This whole blend is what I use in my massages.
Reach out about purchasing your own blend of the new Nourishing Skin oil if you'd like your own!
Side note: This year I plan on growing the three flowers involved in making the trauma carrier oil. I'll grow, harvest, dry and eventually infuse them. To be a part of the full cycle!
